As we all know, Wrinkles are lines that form in the skin. What many people don't know, is that Wrinkles can be categorized in 2 types - DYNAMIC WRINKLES and STATIC WRINKLES:
Dynamic Wrinkles form when the MUSCLES that lie just beneath the skin CONTRACT. Over the years, as we use our facial muscles to laugh, frown, smile, concentrate or squint, the overlying wrinkes of skin become more and more prominent. Examples of dynamic wrinkles on the face include the Glabellar lines (vertical lines in-between the eyebrows, above the nose), 'Crow's feet' on the outer edge of the eyes, and forehead 'Worry lines'. These wrinkles can sometimes make people look older than they actually are.
BOTOX can be used to successfully treat these dynamic wrinkles, and make them look much less noticeable.
Static wrinkles are wrinkles that are apparent even when the MUSCLES of the face ARE AT REST. They often occur due to a loss of volume (deflation) of the area under the skin. Examples of these wrinkles in the face are Naso-Labial Folds (which start at the outer edges of the bottom of the nose and end above the outer edges of the mouth), 'Merrionette' Lines (which start below the outer edges of the mouth and end downward at the outer edges of the chin), and the hollows under the lower eyelids (also called the Tear Trough Deformity).
Fillers such as JUVEDERM and RESTYLANE can be used to re-inflate the space under these Static wrinkles, and this increased volume can greatly reduce the appearance of these wrinkles.
Botox is made from Botulinum Toxin A. When given as an injection in small amounts, it works to block signals from the nerves that make the muscles contract. The targeted muscles then relax, which reduces the appearance of the dynamic wrinkles in the overlying skin.
How is BOTOX Administered?
Using a very fine needle, Dr. Kaplan will inject BOTOX into targeted muscles in your face. The treatments require no anesthetic, and while you may experience brief, mild discomfort, recovery is immediate. You will be able to return to work and resume normal activities that same day.
Patients often need anywhere from one to ten injections during a single treatment session in order to successfully block the nerve signals. The results are most effective during the first two to six weeks after the injections, but often will last up to six months. Results can then be maintained through routine follow-up injections.
FILLERS - JUVEDERM and RESTYLANE
Facial Fillers, like Juvederm and Restylane, are made of a substance called Hyaluronic acid, which is naturally occurring in the body. These 2 different brands of Hyaluronic acid are specifically designed for injection under the skin, to fill in and reduce static wrinkles. These fillers help fill the hollows that produce the Naso-labial folds, Merrionette lines, and Tear Trough Lines.
How are Fillers Administered?
Using a very fine needle, Dr. Kaplan will inject Juvederm or Restylane below the level of the skin, in order to fill in the hollowed area, and plump out the skin so the wrinkles are lessened. There will be very little discomfort felt, and a numbing medicine can be mixed into the injection to further diminish and slight pain you may experience. The entire treatment takes only minutes, and the most common side effect is a mild degree of swelling and redness at the injection sites. This goes away within 1-2 days, at which time you will already notice the benefits of the filler treatment.
The effects of Juvederm and Restylane typically can last from 4-6 months, while some people can maintain the benefits for up to a year. Results can be maintained successfully with follow-up injections.
